At Ippon Ryu Jiu Jitsu club we teach traditional Japanese Jiu Jitsu - translated this means 'Gentle Art', however this relates to
the practitioner and not to the individual on the receiving end :). Jiu Jitsu is the martial art of the disarmed Samurai, and was
created by warriors from their experiences on the battlefield during life-or-death struggles. When called upon to defend himself
the warrior would evade an attacker's lunge then counter with a combination of strikes, joint locking and throwing of their
attacker. It can be seen as being a combination of Karate and Judo - although the reality is that these 2 other martial arts
derived as specialisations from schools of technique of Jiu Jitsu. We teach a comprehensive range of techniques from throws and
strikes to joint-locking and ground holds, grappling and weapon-defences, plus traditional japanese weapon kata. We're a
friendly club and are ideal for if you're interested in the traditional ethos behind the art, or for learning self-defence.
Beginners are always welcome so please don't hesitate to come along and give us a try.
